Should I Be Using Electrolytes?
Electrolytes are substances that have a natural positive or negative electrical charge when dissolved in water. Every cell and fluid in your body contains electrolytes. They help your body regulate chemical reactions, maintain the balance between fluids inside and outside your cells, and more.
Electrolytes:
- Regulate nerve and muscle function helping you perform better physically and mentally
- Ensure optimal cardiac function
- Hydrate the body
- Balance blood acidity and blood pressure
- Fortify your immune system
- Help with recovery and rebuild damaged tissue
Signs you may need electrolytes:
Muscle cramps, fatigue, weakness, soreness, cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heart beat), dizziness and mental confusion.
If you drink a lot of water you may be depleting yourself of useful electrolytes. When sweating with exercise or exercising in high temperatures you will often need an electrolyte replacement.
Use electrolytes as a supplement to help maintain balance in your system all year long. Daily supplementation is helpful to keep electrolyte levels balanced.

- Coconut Water: look for pure organic coconut water- no added sugar
- Himalayan Salt: Add a pinch of Himalayan salt to a small shot of water after a workout, or to a cup of water for a more diluted flavor. You can also try drinking 1/2–1 teaspoon of Himalayan salt in 1 cup of water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach
